In development
Kintsyn
A wilderness survivor bonds with a gift from an ancient aid ship, and it starts acting before she does.
Story
Kintsyn is set on a world that survived an alien invasion by taking the invaders’ technology into its bodies, its cities and its damaged land. Every repair leaves a seam, and the seams carry the color of what each person has survived.
Nara, an experienced wilderness survivor, finds an ancient ship in The Wake, a scarred region most people avoid. It came from a people who tried to help. What she finds inside bonds with her, reads her intent and sometimes moves before she does.
A native beast and a crew of city veterans converge on the disturbance. Nara shields one of the crew before they know what she is, and only by working together do they all get out. I’m making it as a proof-of-concept film with minimal dialogue, and I make the music.
Design kit
The world’s visual language, plate by plate, from the cast and the coastal city to the frontier and the helmets.
Cast
Nara and Vey at rest: heavy cloth, human faces and circular modules.
World
An ocean world and its coastal city, clad in ivory around cliffs and sheltered water.
Street
Nara and Vey in the city, seen from the pavement and from high above.
Transit
A single-rider hover speeder, its taxi cousin and a rider’s helmet.
Frontier
Forest and mineral desert, and a living mount whose scutes echo the armor.
Metamorph
Cloth becomes ceramic: Nara from rest to surge, with helmet details.
Sera and Oren
Sera in ivory and teal, Oren in graphite and vermilion, at rest and in shell.
Helmet interface
The view from inside the helmet: status at the rim, the world left clear.
Color and style sheet
The palette, the type and six rules that hold the world together.
World and contact
Nara finds an ancient aid ship, and something inside it.
01A dead warship drifts past a blue world that is still alive.
02The view falls from orbit into the frontier canopy.
03Nara moves along the trail without hesitation.
04A boot tests a loose stone and shifts onto a root.
05Smooth ribs in the hillside: an old vessel, opening into the rock.
06Inside, empty cradles surround one living point of light.
07A small seed flickers in its cradle.
08She touches it, and a filament joins the seam in her glove.
Response and threat
The gift acts before she does, and others come looking.
01She snatches her hand back and checks whether anything is following her.
02Deep in her eye, a cobalt light wakes.
03Her cuff tightens, and cloth becomes a slender ceramic bracer.
04She turns the arm over and laughs in disbelief.
05A filament catches a dropped probe and brings it to her palm.
06A crew of city veterans follows the ridge in an old field transport.
07Vey sees a reading change that was not on the survey.
08A massive native beast comes for the strange new signature in its territory.
Choice and trust
She protects a stranger, and teamwork ends the fight.
01She jumps, the new power adds too much force, and she flies too far.
02Her hood draws over her face, and she resists for one heartbeat.
03Her loose silhouette pulls into a slim armored form.
04She turns her shield from the beast to cover Sera.
05Oren plants an anchor and casts a line across the beast’s path.
06Together they turn the charge, and the line holds.
07The helmet opens on a tired young woman.
08Sera offers a flask, and they share a first small smile.
